I Love You Tree Card

I saw this adorable card on Lauren Meader's blog and fell in love. (If you haven't visited Lauren's blog recently, be sure to check it out. She is amazingly talented and I am always inspired by her great artwork!!) Anyway, back to the card. I loved the cute tree that she created using a heart stamp so I tried to do the same with one of Close to my Heart's new sets called You're Adored. I rolled the heart in Sweet Leaf ink, stamped it off once and then rolled the edges in the ink again to get the two toned look. (I think that is how Lauren did hers too.) I used the branch from CTMH's Whooo Loves You set and stamped it in Chocolate ink. Then I used the tiny little heart in CTMH's new Cupcake Sprinkles set, which I know you will love when you see it tomorrow, and stamped them all over with Cranberry ink. I used the grass from the March Word Puzzle set and then topped them off with more hearts. Then I sponged a bit of Heavenly Blue ink around the background to make it look like sky. I finally used my Martha Stewart picket fence punch that I just had to have and never used. LOL! I scored it and folded it over twice and then added a thin strip of 3-D Foam Squares to give it some dimension. The "i love you" is from CTMH's Because I Love You set. I may give this card to my hubby for his b-day/Valentine's Day on February 14th.
Cardstock: White Daisy, Cranberry
Stamps:
You're Adored, Cupcake Sprinkles (tiny hearts), March Word Puzzle, Because I Love You, Whooo Loves You (tree trunk)
Inks:, Sweet Leaf, Chocolate, Cranberry, Heavenly Blue
Other: Fence Punch (Martha Stewart), 3-D Foam Squares, Foam Tool

Little Birdie Card Kit - Another Sneak Peak

Are these the most adorable little cards you have ever seen or what? They are from the new CTMH My Originals Hello Birdie Card Kit. The cards are 3"x4-3/4" and come with (12) preprinted cards, (3) 6"x12" sticker sheets, and 12 Envelope Flats. You get enough to make 12 cards and envelopes for only $12.95. These are two of my favorites...These kits will be available starting January 1st. Stay tuned for more...

That's Amore Layout - Sneak Peak

Wanna sneak peak of one of the new CTMH paper packs and a few other new goodies? Here is a layout that I made using the new That's Amore paper pack. It is perfect for Valentine's Day cards and layouts, but versatile enough to use for just about anything! The title uses Dimensional Elements (Simple Alphabet lowercase) that are stamped in Baby Pink with a new set called You’re Adored. After I stamped the letters, I used a Foam Tool to cover the chipboard with Vanilla Cream pigment ink. I added a few tiny Sparkles and some Chocolate Ribbon. The ampersand is stamped using the Solo Punctuation set in Chocolate ink directly onto the patterned paper. I used our fabulous new Foundry Bookplates to frame the date. I stamped the word “LOVE” on our new Love Always Journaling Spots. (These are amazing! You get 24 adorable cardstock journaling cards in various sizes for only $2.95!)

I also used the journaling spots for the “Remember” card and the two “Journaling” cards which slip into the fun little pocket. Below is a closeup of some of my journaling. I was glad to complete a spread about my relationahip with my hubby since most of my layouts are of my kids.
Here are some closeups of the two Journaling spots in and out of the pocket. I still need to fill them out. It will be nice to have some hand written notes on this layout...
I added some zigzag stitching with brown thread to tie it all together. (Don’t look too closely though. I am still learning how to sew a straight line, turn corners, and start and stop without making a mess. LOL!)

All of these products will be available on January 1st, 2009. They are in the new Spring 2009 Idea Book/Catalog. I will post more about that soon...

CTMH Retired List

Close to my Heart’s has a lot of retiring items in order to make room for all of the fabulous new products coming our way! We only have until December 31st to order any items on the retired list. Win new CTMH products before they are even available to customers!

I have a new Close to my Heart Spring 2009 catalog in my hot little hands and let me just tell you...I LOVE IT!! The new papers and stamp sets are to die for, not to mention the fun new embellishments and other great goodies.

How would you like to win
a FREE Level 2 paper packet plus a coordinating Level 2 My Stickease sheet from the new catalog before customers can even order from it?

Jeanette Lynton, Close to my Heart's founder and CEO, is having a free drawing on her blog. Be sure to check it out and maybe you will be one of 5 lucky winners!!
See her blog for more details. She will continue to have drawings, contests, and challenges, so be sure to check her blog often at JeanetteLynton.com.

Good luck!

Another fun gift idea...

This is what my neighbors will be getting from me this year. (I am sure they will all be surprised to get something actually baked, as everyone knows I am kind of a menace in the kitchen. LOL!) I got the idea for the mini brownies from Becky here. Super easy! I found these cute tins in the dollar section at Target. Unfortunately they only had 10 and need about 15. I will be checking out another Target to see if I can find more.
I used Close to my Heart's Christmas Melodies stamp set for the tag. This is one set that I have used a lot this year! I stamped the image on white cardstock and then folded it in half before I cut it. This way I had the inside to write my message. I added a tiny bit of Prisma Glitter to the ornament. It is hard to see in the photo, but looks kind of cute in real life.
I hope everyone enjoys the baked goodies and isn't afraid to eat them since they came from my kitchen. (I could figure out a way to burn salad. That's how much I know about cooking.) LOL!

Fun and easy Christmas gift ideas

Our church is having our annual Women's Ministries Christmas Celebration on Saturday. As in the past, there will be a speaker, lunch, and some great fellowship. However, this year they are adding two breakout sessions. One session will focus on hospitality and the other will focus on giving. I was asked to lead the "giving" session and to have a small, quick, and easy project for everyone to make using items that most of us already have around the house. Since we won't have much time, I decided to show everyone how to make a bag-a-lope (a mini gift bag made out of an envelope.) You can find a great tutorial here.

I will also have a bunch of other gift and packaging samples out for everyone to see including some of the following projects. I thought posting these might help give you some ideas for gift giving this year. (Sorry if many of you have seen some of these projects in the past.)

The first project is a Hershey's Nugget tin. I made these for my neighbors last year and they loved them. First buy a bag of Hershey’s Nuggets (Costco has them in bulk.) Of course, you need to make sure you don’t eat them all while you are making your gifts. LOL! Decorate some standard sized Avery address labels with stamps, markers, computer type or images, etc. I used Papertrey's Holiday Treats stamp set. After you decorate your labels, peel them off and wrap them around the candy nuggets. They will fit perfectly. Then put them in a bag, box or tin as shown in my photo. (These tins can be purchased from Specialty Bottle. (Option: instead of using Avery labels, use patterned paper to wrap nuggets.)

Below are links to Nugget Tins I have made in the past. (Can you tell I love making these things?) They also make great baby shower favors!!
Valentine's Nugget Tins
Easter Nugget Tins
Christmas Nugget Tins
The next project is the ole' snowman soup idea. I filled a jar (bought in a pack of 12 at Walmart for a great price!) with hot chocolate powder, some marshmellows, and some small peppermint candies. Then I wrapped the jar with some Close to my Heart Evensong patterned paper. I used the labels that Nichole Heady created last year and changed the color to match my theme. I stamped some snowflakes from Close to my Heart's Snowflake Kisses stamp set in Garden Green ink. I added some ribbon and a candy cane to finish it off. (One lucky gal in my class will win this on Saturday!)

The next project is a decorated pop-top can and matching card. These are fun and easy to make. Start with any pop-top can. (I found that Bush's Baked Beans cans are great because they don't have any writing on the top of the can.) Open the can from the bottom using a safety can opener. (Pampered chef makes a great one.) Then empty the contents, or eat them, and wash and dry the inside of the can. Refill the can with whatever you like. I used Hershey's Kisses. Apply a little Liquid Glass (or other strong adhesive) all the way around the outer rim of the cut out bottom. Then decorate as desired. My sample uses Close to my Heart's Everlasting Creative Basics Paper and Magical Seasons stamp set. This next one is another oldie but goodie. I used some cardboard coasters as my base. (Many restaurants will let you take new ones some for free if you ask. Chili's, Islands, and Claim Jumper have been my best bet lately.) Cover your coasters with patterned paper. (Mine uses CTMH's Abundance paper pack and Autumn Splendor stamp set.) Punch two holes on one side of each coaster making sure that the holes line up to each other when coasters are next to each other. Thread ribbon through holes to connect coasters together. Decorate as desired. (Option: Use hinges instead of the ribbon to attach coasters as shown in photo. I used some Close to my Heart hinges and brads.)
Stay tuned for more gift and packaging ideas. I will post more tomorrow...

Advent Calendar

Did you think I dropped off of the face of the earth? Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I am back though...

First off, thanks to everyone who emailed me and posted about their mammo experiences. Apparently it isn't as painless for everyone as it was for me. (I suppose that is one good thing about having a small chest. LOL!) In any case, it is still important for everyone to have them whether it hurts or not. It could save your life!

Ok, off my soapbox. Here is a fun little advent calendar that I made for my kiddos. I used a Cookie Sheet from the Dollar Tree and some matchboxes that I got at Walmart. (I now have a huge bag of matches on the top shelf of my pantry which I am sure I will never use.) I covered them with some patterned paper and added a little magnet on the back of each one. I still have a few things to add to some of the boxes. I am shooting to have it done by December 1st so that we can actually use it! LOL! I have no idea what to put in them since they are kind of small. Hopefully I will be able to find some small stickers or candy or something to put in them.

You can click on the photo to make it larger...

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!! I hope to post a few more things later this weekend. *Ü*

"Public Service Announcement"

I am shamelessly using my blog today for a "public service announcement." I just came back from having my very first mammogram. I know I am only 38 years old and that you aren't supposed to start having them until you are 40, but breast cancer runs in my family, so I actually should have started having them a few years ago. I was either pregnant or nursing the past few years, so I put it off.

After years of hearing horror stories about mammograms, I have to say, it was the quickest, easiest procedure ever. So, here is my PSA, "GO HAVE A MAMMOGRAM!" Don't listen to those who say it was horrible, painful, whatever... It was a piece of cake and it is one more way to help screen for breast cancer. While I am at it, I might as well remind you to do your monthly self exams too. (I need to be better about that myself.)

OK, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

I should have something crafty to post for you soon. I just need to take some photos.

A Fun Tag and a Couple Awards

My sweet blogging buddy (and very talented I might add) Kathi tagged me last week. This one is kind of fun because it is different. Here are the rules:

1. Get the book on your nightstand (or whatever book you are currently reading).
2. Open it to page 56 and find the 5th sentence.
3. Post the next couple of sentences on your blog, along with these instructions.
4. Do not go and find your favorite book, it has to be the one you are reading now!
5. Tag 5 other people to do the same.

Ok. This is gonna be good. The only two books "on" my nightstand right now are my bible and a book I am currently reading called Taming Your Family Zoo: Six Weeks to Raising a Well-Mannered Child by Donna Jones. I have a ton of half read books inside my nightstand that are probably much more interesting, but since I must follow the rules, I will go with this one. I actually met Donna, the author, at one of our MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meetings a couple months ago. She did a presentation at the meeting and was fantastic. She is very down to earth and had a lot of great advice about raising a well-mannered child.

Here is an excerpt from page 56, beginning with the fifth sentence: "Millions of kids are virtually raising themselves. Is it any wonder that civility has all but disappeared in today's youth?"

It goes on to describe how many of us fall into one or more of many categories as parents and how to not fall prey to these ineffective parenting styles. The styles she includes are: repeating parents, threatening parents, doormat parents, "Do as I say not as I do" parents, "She's lost her marbles" parents, inconsistent parents, "Kids will be kids" parents, overly strict parents, overly permissive parents, "It's not my child's fault" parents, and/or absent parents. I have to say that I a, guilty of many of these parenting styles. Donna has some great tips on how to avoid being all of these types of parents. (Now if I can just put some of her tips into action, my kids might actually be well-mannered. LOL!

Now for the award. I received this award from Vicki a few days ago. Vicki is another one of my CTMH online buddies. She may not know it, but I stalk her blog almost daily. She is such a HUGE inspiration to me! *Ü*

I was also nominated for this award yesterday by Lori. I am so humbled by her kindness. She is another amazingly talented CTMH consultant! Check out her blog. You will love it!The rules if you are nominated are:
1) You may post the logo on your blog.
2) Put a link to the person who sent you the award.
3) Nominate 5 blogs.
4) Put links to the blogs you nominate.
5) Leave a message for your nominees on their blogs.

Ok, now I am supposed to tag 5 people from my first tag, nominate 6 people for the "I love you blog" award, and nominate 5 more people for the "Kreativ Blogger" award. I don't think I even know that many bloggers. LOL! I know I stalk a ton of blogs, but they have no clue who I am. Many of them already have already been tagged and nominated for the awards. I am going to humbly say "thank you" to those who tagged me and ask you all to visit the blogs that I have posted to the right, as those are many of the ones I visit regularly. (I actually need to update the list because there are a bunch more I visit these days.) I will do that soon.

Thanks everyone. Have a great evening! *Ü*

Window Card

I saw a cute card on someone's blog that had a little window a while back and copied the photo onto my computer for future inspiration. I just made my version of the card but I don't know who made the one that inspired me. I hate when that happens. So, if this looks like a card that you made, please let me know so I can give you credit!
I used my new CTMH Argyle Backgrounds set to make the polka dots on Blush cardstock for the base of the card. Then I stamped the cupcakes using the CTMH Baby Steps set and colored them in with markers. Then I added some Prisma Glitter to the frosting. (Yummy!) I punched some squares from a small piece of Cocoa cardstock and popped it up with 3-Foam Squares. Then I took a piece of striped paper from the More to Adore Paper Pack and added a scallop edge with my SU! punch. I folded it over and glued it behind the "window."I finally added a piece of chipboard from a pack of CTMH Dimensional Elements Bookplates. I stamped the sentiment from the Happy Birthday set, added some sponging to the edges, and attached it with Blush brads.

Anniversary Card

First I need to acknowledge that my last post was incorrect. My sweet friend Bren actually does have a blog. I had no idea. Let me just say it is fabulous too! Check it out here. I also realized after I looked at her cute snowman card again that I completely forgot to add a scarf to my little guy. Oops. He is going to be cold. *Ü*

Onto my card...Today is not only election day, but also our anniversary. I am having flashbacks of our honeymoon 8 years ago when I told my hubby I would love it if there would be no TV during our honeymoon week in Hawaii. He agreed and told me that the only time he would watch TV would be to find out who won the election. Well, if you can imagine, we watched the news the ENTIRE week and by the time we got home from our honeymoon, we still didn't know who won the election. (All those crazy hanging chads. LOL!) I have a feeling that tonight may be a bit of the same. We may end up eating a nice anniversary dinner while watching FOX News. *Ü*

We decided to go very simple this year and not buy each other anything. We agreed to either make something, write something, or do something that didn't cost any money. This morning he got down on his knee and read our wedding vows to me and told me that he was renewing them and that he wanted to marry me all over again. Soooo sweet!! I didn't think of anything that creative so I made him a card with a list of things that I love about him. Here is the card:
I used a few minimal items for this card, but that was my goal. I didn't want it to be about the fancy card. I wanted it to be about what was written inside.

Stamps: SU! Short & Sweet, CTMH, Extreme Caps
Cardstock
: CTMH Cranberry & White Daisy
Inks: Black & Cranberry
Other: Nestibilities Scallop Rectangle and Regular Rectangle, Prisma Glitter, 3-D Foam Squares

My "Lifted" Snowman (and a little whining)...

Well, all I can say is that I am glad today is over. I had a root canal this morning on a tooth that has been bothering me since March! Going to the dentist is one of my least favorite things in the entire world. I had two children with no drugs and I have to say going to the dentist is worse!! You may think I am exaggerating, and I may be just a bit, but going to the dentist certainly is not fun. They can never get me numb enough and today I had to have FIVE shots before I was finally numb enough for them to finish the job. I am sorry for my whining. I usually save my complaining for my hubby, but I think he is tired of hearing it today. LOL!

Anyway, onto my card. Well, actually I can't really say that it is my card because my friend Bren is the one who came up with the cute creation. I just shamelessly lifted her idea and made my own. (Thanks for the inspiration Bren!) Bren doesn't have a blog, but she does have some fantastic artwork posted on her website if you'd like to check it out here.
This cute little snowman is from CTMH's November stamp of the month called All Decked Out. It is a "build a snowman" type of set and is soooo cute. I also used some patterned paper from the Aspen collection along with some Bamboo and Twilight cardstock. I used a White Gel Pen and some Prisma Glitter on the tag and snow. I also added a few CTMH tiny Clear Sparkles to the snowflakes. The ear muffs are from CTMH's new Winter Cozy Mini-Medley pack. They are Twilight colored cordory brads. Aren't they fun? Bren's neighbor came up with that idea. Cute, huh?I colored his nose in with an Orange marker and shaded his body with a Grey Flannel marker. The only other things I used were a foam tool to add some ink around the edges and an edge distresser to rough up the edges a bit. The ribbon is retired CTMH Colonial White Organdy ribbon.

Well, that's about it for me. I am off to take some more pain killers. Nighty-night. *Ü*

Four Seasons (well actually only one season) Card

I loved the Four Seasons stamp set as soon as I saw it in the current CTMH catalog. I finally got it and this is the first card that I made with it. (There are so many possibilities with this set.)

I stamped the tree in Twilight ink and then sponged more ink around the edges. Then I outlined the tree with a while gel pen. I used a fine tip glue pen to trace over the branches and snow and then added some Prisma Glitter. It is hard to see the glitter in the photos. The sentiment is from the October stamp of the month called Annotations. After popping the tree up with some foam squares, I matted the card with Twilight cardstock and was done in about 10 minutes. I love quick and simple cards. Don't you?
